The most challenging question to answer in life is "Who Am I"?
I have asked myself this question several times over the past few years, and as a matter of fact, I have a chapter in my book "I Am my Mother's Wildest Dream," titled" Who is Nyajuok Tongyik Doluony?"
If I am honest, I realize some people will get to answer it for themselves, and the others have it answer for them. That is the difference between choice versus duty. The answer is predetermined in my culture, mainly for us women (we are our relationships). Coming out to share my own story was not easy bc my life was never mine alone; it encompasses my family and my whole community. I didn't want to bring them shame, but I knew I could never choose silence!
As I stated in the book, I was hopeful that "I can answer this question without allowing the opinions of others, which have lived in my head and plagued me for years, to hijack my truth and sway me to say things in a certain way to protect how others may feel."
I know I am more than the connections I was born in and build; I am more than my career and businesses; I am more than my physical body; I am more than a mother or a wife; I am a spiritual being living in a physical body. I am my characters; I am my values; I am who I think I am.
Hopefully, when you ask yourself this question, WHO AM I? I pray you are deeply honest with yourself and turn off all the outside noise that had groomed you to think a certain way. I can tell you that you are way more than you ever thought possible. You are a child of God. He lives within you and you within Him.
However, the most important question to ask yourself is, Who Am I?
